1.Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.






2.Secure the wheels with chocks.

3.Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.







4.Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.







5.Unscrew the wheel bolts.







7.Remove the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins. Use a crowbar.




8.Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.

9.Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.








10.Detach the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar.






11.Remove the brake caliper.





Replacement: brake pads -BMW E46 touring. AUTODOC experts recommend:
· Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the   body with a wire without disconnecting from   the brake hose to prevent depressurization   of the brake system.
· Make sure that the brake caliper is not   hanging on the brake hose.
· Don't press the brake pedal after the brake   caliper has been removed. As a result, the   piston can fall out from the brake cylinder,   and brake fluid leakage and depressurization   of the system may occur.

12.Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.






Replacement:brake pads -BMW E46 touring.Tip:
·Measure the brake disc thickness.Upon reaching the wear limit the part must be replaced.


13.Disconnect the brake pads wear sensor. Use a crowbar.





14.Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner






Please note!
· Some cars are not equipped with the brake pad wear sensor.


15.Treat the brake caliper piston. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: brake pads -BMW E46 touring. Tip:
· After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.

16.Press in the brake caliper piston. Use brake caliper wind back tool.










17.Treat the brake caliper bracket where it contacts the brake pads. Use anti-squeal paste






18.Install new brake pads.

·Make sure the pads are installed with linings facing the disc.


19.Clean the brake caliper guide pins. Use a wire brush.




20.Connect the brake pads wear sensor. Use a crowbar.





21.Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque







22.Install the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins.






23.Install the brake caliper retaining spring





24.Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.




25.Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.





26.Install the wheel.




27.Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.





28.Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm
torque.




29.Remove the jacks and chocks





30.Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap

Replacement: ignition coil – BMW Z8 Roadster (E52). AUTODOC recommends:
   The replacement procedure is the same for the ignition coils of all cylinders.
    All work should be done with the engine stopped.



REPLACEMENT: IGNITION COIL – BMW Z8 ROADSTER (E52). TAKE
THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

1 Open the hood.
2 Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
3 Unscrew the fasteners of the cabin filter housing cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.
                   

 


 4  Remove the cabin filter housing cover.

        


                                         AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: ignition coil – BMW Z8 Roadster (E52). Do not use excessive force
when removing the part as this may damage it.

5 Remove the wiper arm covers.


6 Detach the connectors from the climate control sensors.


7 Remove the climate control sensors.
8 Unscrew the fasteners of the lower part of the scuttle panel. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.

 9    Detach the cable duct from the upper part of the microfilter housing. Use a flat screwdriver.
  


10  Remove the lower part of the scuttle panel.

 11  Unscrew the engine cover fastener. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.


12  Remove the engine cover.


        Replacement: ignition coil – BMW Z8 Roadster (E52). Tip:
Do not apply excessive force when removing the part. Otherwise you may
damage it.


13 Detach the connector from the ignition coil.



14  Treat the ignition coil connector with electronic spray. The spray will protect the electrical contacts from
corrosion, oxidation, and will reduce the contact resistance.

15 Take out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.

16  Treat the ignition coil tips. Use high-temperature grease. Use a flat screwdriver.

17  Install the new ignition coil to the spark plug well. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.

  



18  Plug in the ignition coil connector.

 


19  Install the engine cover and secure it.
     



Replacement: ignition coil – BMW Z8 Roadster (E52). AUTODOC experts
recommend:

Make sure the engine cover is properly seated. It should not be displaced with
respect to the guiding fasteners.
Do not apply excessive force when installing the part. Otherwise you may
damage the fasteners.


20  Screw in the engine cover fasteners. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.


21  Reinstall the lower part of the scuttle panel.



22  Screw in the fasteners of the lower part of the scuttle panel. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.




23  Install the climate control sensors




24  Attach the connectors of the climate control sensors.


 
25   Install the wiper arm covers.


26   Attach the cable duct to the upper part of the microfilter housing.


27   Reinstall the cabin filter housing cover. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in plac

28  Screw in the fasteners of the cabin filter housing cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.


29  Remove the fender protection cover.
30  Close the hood.
31  Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
